SEASON
Hope all had a great Australia Day weekend. All Clubs busy getting
ready for the Branch Titles to be held on 7th & 8th February 2009
at Fingal Beach SLSC. Good luck to all Boat Crews competing in their
Branch Titles this weekend.
DUCKS 4 DOLLAR$
The 2009 Energy Australia Ducks 4 Dollar$ event was held on
Australia Day on Newcastle Harbour raising much needed funds for Hunter
Surf Lifesaving Clubs and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. Despite an
overcast sky and some drizzle the 10,000 yellow ducks were a
spectacular sight as they bobbed and weaved with the current. The
winning duck number was 4010 Natalie Croft of Whitebridge who won $2500
2nd was 8384 Mark Gordon of Kotara $1500 and 3rd 4016 Natasha Page of
Mayfield who won $1000. The corporate race was won by Westpac
Commercial Banking Centre Charlestown. The surf club challenge was won
by Caves Beach. Congratulations to Nobbys Club for selling the winning
duck.
LIFESAVING:
Attention
all Club Captains: Please don't forget you only
have 1 week after the end of the month to enter patrol hours on
Surfguard. It would be appreciated if you could start sending in your
YELLOW Patrol sheets to the Branch Office.
Attention
all Chief Instructors: Could all Blue Proficiency
Work Cards for Juniors and Seniors please be returned to the
Branch Office. Also all Junior and Senior proficiencies and
Junior Surf Education Awards should now be entered onto Surfguard.
Clubs
are reminded that if they participate in any event outside of Surf Lifesaving,
Water safety, people power etc you must
lodge a Special
Event Form to cover your members with Insurance. These
can be downloaded from our website MEMBERS - Downloadable Forms
LIFESAVING HINT
With the new IRB resources, Gratis Waterways licences are no long
valid. All IRB Crew and Drivers should have received their laminated
license through SLS NSW which should be carried at all times. If you
have not received your licence, members should contact their IRB
Captains who can make further inquiries on their behalf at the Branch
Office.
JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT:
Youth
Development Camp: Will be held on the 7th and 8th
March 2009. 2 Under 14 and 2 Under 15 Rookie Members will be asked to

2009 commencing at 9.30am. All Rookies are invited to the challenge day
which will be held in conjunction with the Youth Development Camp.
